This encounter ignited a lifelong passion for space exploration and engineering, leading her to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in aerospace engineering at WPI.
After graduation, Waitt worked as a systems engineer on radar flight test missions for a defense contractor, but she quickly realized that this wasn't her true calling. She then took a different path, becoming the wife of a retired sergeant first class officer in the United States Army, which allowed her to travel the world and continue following NASA missions from afar.
During this time, Waitt also pursued a master's degree in Space Operations from the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs. However, it was her decision to return to her first career passion that truly changed her life. Despite the skepticism of others, she made the courageous choice to pursue a career at NASA, a decision that would ultimately lead her to her dream role.
Waitt's dedication and perseverance paid off when she began her career at Kennedy Space Center as a test project engineer for the Artemis launch team. As the only female among 14 test project engineers, she quickly became certified to sit on the launch console during dynamic pre and post-launch operations for the SLS rocket and Orion spacecraft. Her passion and expertise were embraced by her colleagues, creating a supportive and welcoming environment.
The Artemis launch team, with its diverse and passionate members, has become a source of pride for Waitt.
